Radio 1 revamps schedule with even more Moyles!

Chris Moyles gets extra half-hour

Kelly Osbourne joins Radio 1

Friday nights dedicated to dance music genres; Saturday nights dedicated to black music genres

BBC Radio 1 announces today an overhaul of both the daytime and evening schedules.

The new schedule will come into effect on Friday 12 October 2007 with the following changes:

The Chris Moyles Show will be extended by an extra half an hour with a new start time of 6.30am from Monday 15 October

Sunday evenings, 7pm to midnight, becomes the teen zone – new show hosted by Annie Mac; Kelly Osbourne the new host of Radio 1's Surgery

Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates will host Radio 1's Chart Show plus a new audience request show

Friday and Saturday evenings become "the best club flyer in the world" dedicated to dance music genres (Fridays) and black music genres (Saturdays)

In further news, more brand new shows are being introduced:

. Nihal will host the weekend breakfast show

. New DJ Greg James takes over the prestigious early breakfast slot, having been plucked from student radio

. Trevor Nelson's Saturday evening show will be simulcast on Radio 1's sister station 1Xtra BBC

. Huw Stephens and the Nations shows continue and become BBC Introducing, the BBC's initiative supporting the newest emerging musical talent

. Rob da Bank gains a new show

. Dick and Dom join the station to host the Sunday morning show

JK and Joel, the current hosts of the early breakfast show and Radio 1's Chart Show, will leave Radio 1 after three-and-a-half years with the station. Trophy Twins will leave Radio 1 after two years with the station.

Chris Moyles said: "I'm really pleased with my extension! We always run out of time on the show so it'll be great having an extra half hour a day. Although 'cos it means getting up earlier I'll probably be late more often."

Reggie Yates said: "It's really exciting to be a part of the chart as new music is what we are all about and it doesn't get much better than announcing the new number one!"

Fearne Cotton said: "I can't wait to start the new show with Reg on Radio 1. Announcing the chart each week will be so exciting. I'm also looking forward to the request show, we'll play just what you want for the weekends!"

Nihal said: "Oh my gosh! I'm still so hyped up by this news that when I eventually calm down I'll be able to verbalise how humbled and excited I am."

Greg James said: "The prospect of working alongside the presenters that I listened to growing up is very exciting. I have always listened to Radio 1 and I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to be a part of its future.

"Only a few months ago, I was finishing university, doing shows on my student station hoping that I'd get the chance to do a show one day on my favourite station. This opportunity is simply mind-blowing!"

Andy Parfitt, Controller, Radio 1, 1Xtra and Teens, said: "It's important that we keep up the pace of change and innovation both on air and online.

"This simplifies and strengthens Radio 1 and is an important step in providing programmes focussed on the under-18 audience.

"The Sunday pm line-up, which I'm delighted includes Kelly Osbourne, is a great addition to a zone that will include Fearne Cotton, Reggie Yates and Annie Mac.

"The new Radio 1 schedule, coupled with the recently announced changes for 1Xtra, really give us the chance of turbo-charging the BBC's performance with young audiences over the coming years."

Ben Cooper, Head of Programmes, Radio 1, said: "In the year that Radio 1 celebrates 40 years of bringing new music to its audience I believe we are now delivering the best schedule possible.

"We've made it simpler and even easier for our audience to navigate which is key in such a crowded media world.

"The line-up allows us to nurture new talent and at the same time have the biggest DJs in terms of both music and entertainment on the station – it's a total package for our audience to enjoy and for me represents public service at its best.

"I'd like to thank JK and Joel and Trophy Twins for all their hard work at Radio 1 and wish them all the best for the future."

JK and Joel said: "We've had a great time at Radio 1 and have presented some of the biggest shows on the network like early breakfast and the Radio 1 Chart Show.

"We've got a variety of TV shows for different TV channels that we are filming at the moment – we'll now have more time to concentrate on even more exciting new projects."
