Donny's homecoming beamed across the world
|
Outside Wales, it's a little known fact that international superstar Donny Osmond is a proud Welshman. The keen genealogist has even traced his roots back 500 years to the south Wales town of Merthyr Tydfil.
Now, Donnymania is about to hit the town as Donny plays his only UK outdoor appearance at Cyfartha Castle on Saturday 30 June. And thanks to BBC Wales, no Donny fan on the planet need miss out on the fun, whether they've got tickets or not.
The pop sensation returns to his ancestral home to play an extra special gig in the beautiful Merthyr Tydfil castle, and BBC Wales is bringing the full live experience to viewers through extensive live web, television and radio coverage, across Wales, the UK and the world.
The concert will be beamed to fans across the UK, who can get live access to the concert from 9.15pm by pressing the red button on digital BBC channels.
Web users can also catch Donny's performance on broadband from 9.15pm by visiting bbc.co.uk/donnycomeshome, which also features a special behind-the-scenes documentary on Donny in Wales.
And for the full surround sound experience listeners can tune into BBC Radio Wales from 8.30pm for live coverage on FM, MW, digital radio and bbc.co.uk/radiowales.
Even fans outside the UK will be able to tune in live, with a pay-for-view broadcast of the BBC coverage via donny.com.
BBC Wales will also be broadcasting exclusive concert highlights after the concert so that fans can live the experience all over again.
"I'm thrilled to be 'coming home' and having the opportunity for fans all over the world to experience this event in real time," says Donny. "It will be a memorable evening for all of us."
Donny – who has been in show business since the age of five – traced his family roots in the Merthyr area, as viewers of the BBC Wales documentary Coming Home: Donny Osmond will have seen.
The concert is a must-see event for every Donny fan as he comes home to sing in the land of his forefathers.
"This is a new kind of live production where Donny fans in Wales and across the UK can watch and listen live for free on BBC TV, radio and online, whilst Donny's worldwide fans outside the UK can join in the fun by tuning in via his own website for a one-off payment," explains Clare Hudson, BBC Wales' Head of English Language Programmes.
"That's in addition to the television highlights of the concert which will be aired on BBC One Wales at a later date. This is the first time that Donny and the BBC have done anything like this, it's an innovative approach to using our platforms in the best interests of audiences."
