Hanoi photographers win BBC Vietnamese contest

The Green Zoom Group of photographers in Hanoi has won the BBC Vietnamese photo essay competition about Vietnamese life.

The winning images, which are now posted on the BBC Vietnamese website, bbcvietnamese.com, have been judged by the BBC Vietnamese team and Picture Editor of BBC News Interactive, Phil Coomes.

The competition received around 200 entries from the BBC's audience across Vietnam, depicting various aspects of everyday life.

Head of BBC Vietnamese, Giang Nguyen, said: "Our team had a great experience going through the pictures sent by our audience, amateurs and professionals alike.

"The resulting photo galleries now on display on bbcvietnamese.com reflect the rich and exciting imagery of modern Vietnam.

"I am happy to say that this competition brought us even closer to the Vietnamese people, showing us how diverse the users of our website are.

"In less than two months, the competition generated more than 160,000 page impressions to bbcvietnamese.com from users in Vietnam and around the world."

Phil Coomes commented on the Green Zoom Group's winning entry: "Every picture is a strong depiction of a fragment of life in today's Vietnam, revealing a different aspect of the village of Tho Ha. The moments of work, fun and relaxation give us a genuine feeling of being there alongside the villagers."

Second prize goes to Nguyen Duc Tuyen with images of a day in the life of peasants during harvest time.

Third prize goes to Dang Thanh Hai for photographs of fishermen and beach traders in Central Vietnam.
