The Edwardians
Sue Perkins and Giles Coren in Edwardian Supersize Me

The Edwardians – The Birth Of Now

Introduction

This April, BBC Four launches its most ambitious season of programming to date, celebrating all things Edwardian in a collection of eclectic dramas, documentaries and entertainment programmes spanning a total of six weeks.

In just a few years at the start of the 20th century, Britain changed in unimaginable ways.

From the first foray into aviation, to the invention of labour-saving devices for the home, to the rise of "the brand", and the birth of not only the High Street, but also of the commuter class, mass consumerism and tabloid journalism, the Edwardians lived lives not too distant from our own.

This new BBC Four season investigates, interrogates and celebrates the richness and excitement of this pioneering and world-changing time.
