Public signs Alan Johnston petition

Members of the public have the opportunity to add their names to the petition calling for the release of kidnapped BBC Gaza correspondent Alan Johnston.

The petition was launched in Monday's (2 April) Guardian newspaper when 300 leading figures from the journalistic community signed a petition calling for Johnston's release.

Now the public are adding their names to the petition which is continuing on the BBC News website this week.

Members of the public are also posting messages of support for Johnston and his family on the website at: bbc.co.uk/haveyoursay

A wide range of correspondents, editors and presenters from the UK and abroad signed the petition in the Guardian.

Johnston has worked in Gaza for three years. He was last seen on the afternoon of 12 March 2007.
