Monthly figures reveal record requests for BBC Radio online

On demand listening to BBC Radio on the internet has reached record levels, with 12.5 million requests logged in September 2006, according to the BBC's latest monthly statistics.

 

The Archers (BBC Radio 4) was the most popular on demand programme (listened to after broadcast) on the BBC Radio Player, with 682,304 listens over the month.

 

Chris Moyles (BBC Radio 1) received 503,088 requests, taking second place.

 

Live online listening to BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3 reached a new peak in September, as the stations clocked up 3.1 million and 475,000 hours respectively.

 

September also saw a record number of downloads of programmes in the BBC Download and Podcast Trial - 4.8 million mp3s were downloaded over the course of the month.

 

Radio 4's From Our Own Correspondent saw the biggest percentage increase in downloads (75%), equating to more than a quarter of a million downloads of the programme.

 

Radio 1's Best of Moyles tops the table of weekly podcasts, with 574,067 monthly downloads, while Russell Brand's BBC 6 Music podcast notched up 140,440 downloads during September.
