Nick Knowles has signed a new two-year deal to work exclusively with the BBC.
Nick will continue to present exclusively for the broadcaster, as a major face
for BBC ONE, but the new contract includes a development deal where he will have
time in between projects to develop and produce programmes.
This deal will enable Nick to work across a broad range of factual programming.
It will initially see him present two new programmes, Mission Africa and The
Wedding Show on BBC ONE, and continue as a presenter on DIY SOS.
Mission Africa is a 15-part programme presented by Nick which sees 15 young
building apprentices, selected from hundreds of applicants across the UK, travel
to the middle of a desert in northern Kenya.
There they will work at an existing
conservancy, which has no facilities, and will construct an eco lodge, refurbish
community water supplies and retrain rangers there, putting everything in place
so that tourism can start.
They will be accompanied by former SAS major Ken
Hames, the expedition leader on Beyond Boundaries.
The Wedding Show (working title) will, each week, feature a deserving couple
who have a date booked to get married but have little organised.
Each couple has
different reasons for needing help but all are prepared to hand over their
wedding to the team, led by Nick, who aim to make it happen on time, on budget,
and be better than they could have imagined in their wildest dreams.
Nick says: "'I'm delighted to be staying at the BBC continuing to be involved
with new and exciting projects there.
"When I'm not busy working on Mission
Africa, The Wedding Show and DIY SOS, I'm planning to focus on developing new
projects and I'm pleased that this contract gives me the time and scope to do
this."
Peter Fincham, the Controller of BBC ONE, says: "Nick is a great face for BBC ONE
and a real hit with our audiences.
"I am very pleased he is working on so many
exciting new projects with us."
