Avalon Television has been commissioned to make a brand new pilot for BBC THREE, written by and starring Bafta-winning comedian Karen Taylor.

The 30-minute show - working title of Touch Me, I'm Karen Taylor - will feature a mix of sketches, stand-up and monologues.

A contemporary comedy-variety show, it also promises to feature singing and dancing thrown in for good measure.

Sally Debonnaire, Managing Director, Avalon Television, said: "It's fantastic to be working with BBC THREE, and an obvious talent like Karen, on brand new comedy programming that has such exciting potential."

Lucy Lumsden, BBC Controller of Comedy Commissioning, said: "Karen's such a naturally funny person we're delighted to have her first solo show which will add to the strong line up of female-led comedy coming through on BBC THREE."

Karen Taylor is best known for starring in two series of the Bafta-winning and Golden Rose-nominated The Sketch Show (ITV1).

She has also hosted the nightly comedy show FAQ U (Channel 4), appeared with Steve Coogan on his live DVD and is soon to appear in a one-off comedy, May Contain Nuts (BBC THREE).

Other characters will be played by Kate Robbins (The Kate Robbins Show, Deadringers) and newcomers Claire Ward and Lawry Lewin.

Other contributing writers will include David Quantick (Harry Hill's TV Burp, Smack The Pony, Make My Day and the British Comedy Award-winning My New Best Friend) and Brenda Gilhooly (Harry Hill's TV Burp, Lilly Live and Gayle's World).

The show will be produced by Charlie Hanson (Extras, The Sketch Show, Alistair McGowan's Big Impression, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace) and directed by Michael Cumming (Brass Eye, Lenny Henry In Pieces, Alistair McGowan's Big Impression, Bremner Bird and Fortune and The Mark Steel Lectures).

Executive producers will be Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday and Sally Debonnaire.

The musical director is Richard Thomas (Jerry Springer - The Opera, This Morning With Richard Not Judy and The Frank Skinner Show).
