BBC TWO has secured the UK terrestrial broadcast rights to the second series of the Australian hit comedy series Kath & Kim.
Written by and staring Jane Turner (Kath) and Gina Riley (Kim), the hilarious satirical eight-part series will come to BBC TWO in 2006.
The iconic characters and suburban nightmares, Kath & Kim, return with a second series and another fascinating insight into the lives of the foxy ladies from Fountain Lakes.
Kath and Kim are the suburban nightmares living the suburban dream.
In series two, we see the aftermath of the disastrous wedding of Kath Day-Knight to her hunk-o-spunk Kel, a purveyor of fine meats.
Their marriage could already be on the rocks especially with the loss of Kath's libido.
It's not helped by the constant presence of 'foxymoron' daughter Kim Craig (nee Day) who is still playing the ice maiden with estranged husband Brett, but her plan to freeze him out backfires when Brett has the locks changed.
Kim's second best friend, the ever-unlucky-in-love Sharon, is still on the scene but maybe her fortunes have changed as she discovers a new (or old) man in her life.
Jane Turner, co-creator of Kath & Kim, said: "We are thrilled to be back on BBC TWO with Kath & Kim and we hope that audiences will enjoy the second series, that we can push their buttons and they will again take us to their collective British bosom."
Kim, played by Gina Riley, added: "Gee we are over the moon, literally, to be back on BBC TWO with the second series of Kath & Kim.
"We have to say we are not surprised, our lives are so darned interesting."
George McGhee, BBC Controller of Programme Acquisitions, said: "Kath & Kim is really at home on BBC TWO joining some of the brightest and best comedy talent.
"We are committed to bringing the best possible acquisitions to BBC viewers and Kath & Kim fits perfectly into the BBC's comedy portfolio."
The first series of Kath & Kim launched in the UK to critical acclaim in May this year and will be repeated on BBC TWO this winter.
