Thomas Jesty and Rose Setten have
sung their way to success in the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Choristers
of the Year Competition.
Thomas (13) from Winchester and Rose (16) from Worthing in West Sussex
beat off competition from hundreds of other youngsters to win the titles
of Radio 2 Choir Girl and Choir Boy of the Year respectively.
The host for the grand final, held at All Souls Church in London, was
the composer Howard Goodall who is a former choir boy
himself.
A composer of choral music, stage musicals and TV theme tunes, Howard's
TV credits include music for Blackadder, Red Dwarf and The Vicar of
Dibley.
Howard presented the winners with their trophies and £500 each.
They also both received an award of £1,000 for their choirs.
For the competition Thomas sang Be Still for the Presence of the Lord
and The Little Road to Bethlehem by Head.
Rose sang Jerusalem and Ave Maria by Gounod.
Among the judging panel for this year's competition were vocal coach
Carrie Grant, jazz singer Clare Teal, Ken Burton, Artistic Director
& Conductor of the London Adventist Chorale and Malcolm Archer, Organist
and Director of Music at St Paul's Cathedral.
