A series of short dramas from up-and-coming writers will go out on BBC
ONE Daytime in 2005, Controller Alison Sharman announced today (Tuesday
28 September).
The project Brief Encounters (working title) aims
to give new writers an opportunity to develop their scripts with the
help of experienced mentors - well-known writers including Willy
Russell, Tony Jordan (Hustle, EastEnders),
Russell T Davies (Dr Who, Queer As Folk) and Andrew
Davies (Pride and Prejudice).
The ten low-budget 15 minute plays are still at commissioning stage
but will go into production at the end of 2004.
Alison Sharman said: "This is a really exciting opportunity to showcase
the work of a range of new script-writers and an example of how BBC
Daytime develops and promotes new talent."
The drama shorts be executive produced by Will Trotter and Serena Cullen
from BBC Birmingham and will transmit on BBC ONE Daytime in 2005.
