The BBC has
acquired the UK free-tv rights to the first season of ABC's sitcom Kath
& Kim to be shown on BBC TWO.
The show was created by its stars Jane Turner and Gina
Riley, who play a bickering mother (Kath) and daughter (Kim) living
in the suburbs of Melbourne.
It is Australia's highest-rating comedy and has already
received critical acclaim in the UK on digital channels UK Living TV
and Ftn.
BBC's Head of Acquired Series, Sue Deeks, said: "Kath
& Kim is a beautifully observed, funny and original gem of a sitcom
and we are delighted to be able to add it to BBC TWO's line up of distinctive,
cutting-edge comedy."
The first series is likely to transmit on BBC TWO this
winter.
Notes to Editors
Executive producers of the series are Robyn Kershaw,
Gina Riley and Jane Turner.
The show is directed by Ted Emery.
