Cancer season
Cancer
It's a subject that everyone fears, but no-one wants to talk about.
One in three will develop it at some point in their lives and almost
all of us know family or friends already living with it.
Through a range of programmes, BBC THREE tackles cancer head on.
Over several hours, Breast
Cancer - The Operation, shows a woman undergoing a full mastectomy.
Previous patients and experts will explain what is happening each step
of the way, demystifying a procedure that thousands of women go through
every year.
The BBC's online and interactive services will guide viewers to other
sources of advice and support.
Viewers will also be able to access personal support via their mobile
phone.
Anyone personally affected by cancer and seeking further help or those
who want more details about a specific type of cancer can register.
They will then be sent, via text, details of national organisations
that can offer tailored advice and support.
You, Me And Cancer
follows the progress of three young cancer patients, all at different
stages of treatment and diagnosis, over four months.
In a unique experiment - undertaken by Leeds Medical School - the patients,
their families and medical staff have been given a video camera to record
their personal experience of managing, living with and recovering from
cancer.
The documentary uses their footage for this intimate and sensitive
but also uplifting and energising film.
A Mosaic Films and Lippy Films TV Production for BBC THREE.
Hurrah For Cancer
is a positive and humour-filled personal take on living with cancer.
It follows the story of comic, Andre Vincent, who
was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2002.
Instead of listening to all the advice everyone gave him about tackling
the disease, all he could think about was the potential for some really
interesting stand-up material.
So, he decided to include it in his act which he found to be a great
way to tackle such a taboo subject.
A Baby Cow Production for BBC THREE.
There's also a Body
Hits special - Tumour Trouble - in which presenter Dr
John Marsden takes a no-nonsense look at how the lifestyles
people lead when they're young can affect their chances of developing
cancer.
In addition to these programmes there will be a live concert to raise
cancer awareness.
