Mica Paris, Lucian Grainge,
Paul Gambaccini, Zoe Ball, Andy Parfitt are just some of the names taking
part in Radio 2's Great British Music Debate
BBC Radio 2 is to host two more Great British Music Debates this year
featuring key players from the music industry.
The first, on Wednesday 21 July, will be a three hour
live debate focusing on music sales and their continued roller-coaster
ride.
Stuart Maconie hosts the evening which centres
around a live studio-based discussion with comments and questions from
listeners, leading industry figures, artists and commentators.
Lesley Douglas, Controller, Radio 2, says: "Last
year Radio 2's Great British Music Debate gave our listeners the opportunity
to air their views on the future of music. The
feedback was extraordinary.
"One year on the issues are bigger and the risks
for British music are even greater.
"Hardly a day goes by without the music industry
hitting the headlines - downloading, ring tones, the charts, live music
- so this year we are giving Radio 2 listeners even more access to put
their views and questions to the people who shape and influence British
music."
The night of programmes also features specially recorded
sessions from some of the biggest British names in music, along with
features and documentaries.
Presenters include Paul Gambaccini and Zoe Ball.
Listeners can text for their choice of Radio 2 sessions
from British artists including Sting, Pet Shop Boys, Elvis Costello,
David Gray and Annie Lennox.
One lucky listener will get the chance to go to next
year's South By South West Music Festival in Texas.
Highlights include:
· Paul Gambaccini's personal review of the last
12 months in British music
· Zoe Ball goes behind the scenes of a major
UK record label to follow the development of a new British artist as
they prepare for the release of their UK single
· Martin Shankleman dissects the key music business
stories of 2004
· Radio 2 listeners are invited to put their
questions to a panel of music industry experts, pundits and enthusiasts,
who will be in the studio with Stuart Maconie on the night.
The second Great British Music Debate 2004 is on Wednesday
10 November 2004 at 7.00pm.
