1Xtra announces its very first Xtra Garage Weekend, a 59 hour broadcast celebrating UK Garage music in all its forms, be it Grime, SubLow, Dubstep, Eski or Two-step, from 7.00pm on Friday 16 July to 6.00am on Monday 19 July.

1Xtra's own stellar set of Garage DJs - Heartless Crew, J Da Flex, Cameo, Richie Vibe Vee and Femme Fatale - host the Xtra Garage Weekend which will feature live events, guest spots, performances, documentaries and exclusives from the very finest talent in garage music past, present and future.

Following up from this year's phenomenally successful Xtra Bass Week and Xtra Hip Hop Weekend, 1Xtra brings listeners an unprecedented and unique weekend of Garage programming.

Xtra Garage Weekend is programming that no other national station in the UK offers and reflects the station's commitment to the genre at a time when street music is ever more popular and influential.

The Xtra Garage Week launch party will take place at a secret venue and will be a showcase of hot new garage talent.

Hosted by The Heartless Crew, the launch will be broadcast on Saturday 17 July (recorded on Wednesday 14 July) from 11.00pm to 2.00am.

Special guests throughout the weekend are Wiley and his Roll Deep Crew, Ruff Squad, Kano, Jamieson, Zed Bias, MJ Cole, Jason Kaye, Sticky, Terrah Danjah, Donae'o, Maxwell D, Dizzee Rascal and many, many more being confirmed.

Lucky listeners will have the chance to win tickets to the launch party by tuning in to the station or the website for info.

There will also be an on-air DJ competition, where listeners will have the chance to bring in the end of Xtra Garage Week as an on-air mix DJ with their own two hour show on Sunday night (18 July) – the winner will be chosen by the Garage DJs guesting across the weekend.

Willber Willberforce, 1Xtra Programmes Editor, said: "Following on from the success of our Drum and Bass week and Hip Hop weekend, the obvious next stop was Garage.

"Having witnessed this genre being shunned by the mainstream, I hope that with Xtra Garage Week we clearly establish that Garage is still as relevant, exciting and ever changing as it ever was."

With nearly a 10 year heritage, Garage is once more at the forefront of music both overground and underground with a culture that has both spread to a nationwide audience and received worldwide acclaim.

1Xtra will pay tribute to Garage's legacy and future with the Xtra Garage Weekend, and promises listeners undiluted garage heaven.
