Anne Eastgate is to be Project Director
of the BBC Digital Curriculum, taking charge of one of the BBC's biggest
and most ambitious new public services, the BBC announced today (7 April
2004).
Anne takes up her role at the beginning of May and
will report to Frank Flynn, Controller, Children's Education.
She joins BBC Learning from the Granada Learning Group
where she is Development Director.
Anne's role is to drive the delivery of the new service,
oversee all the editorial content and realise the full potential of
digital interactivity.
Frank Flynn said: "Anne has spent ten years working
within the education market in the UK developing resources and directing
projects.
"She has extensive experience in both private and
public sectors, which will enable her to lead the Digital Curriculum
through its next phase of development with full awareness of audience
and private sector needs."
Anne Eastgate said: "I am very excited to be joining
BBC Learning at this time, driving the launch of this BBC service which
will pioneer new standards of interactive education and has the potential
to transform the learning experience of both children and adults in
the UK."
The Digital Curriculum is a new public service from
the BBC due to launch in 2006, following pilots in schools in 2005.
The new BBC service will use the power of interactivity
to provide a range of compelling and exciting multi-media content.
Students will be offered a mix of digital learning resources
– including video, flash animations, interactive games, printable worksheets,
text pages and illustrations – providing a variety of ways to learn.
This free and accessible service for all pupils, teachers
and parents will be available in the classroom, at home and at venues
throughout the community in the UK, and will offer online material on
a range of subjects with 50 per cent of all content commissioned from
external producers.
