BBC
TWO asks the nation what is Britain's Best Sitcom?
BBC
TWO kicks off its winter season with a celebration of the best of
British comedy presented by Jonathan Ross.
Running
over 12 weeks, Britain's Best Sitcom launches on 10 January
with a three hour extravaganza counting down the top 50 sitcoms,
as voted for by the public in a first round national poll of viewers.
The
placings of the lower 40 will be revealed in a countdown from 50
to 11, then the Top 10 will be listed in alphabetical order and
a second round of voting launched.
The
list is a testament to the British talent for comedy and the voting
process will be agonising.
Will
age come before brawn as Dad's Army take on Men Behaving Badly?
Is
Basil Fawlty more popular than David Brent?
Will
Father Ted prove to be more saintly than The Vicar of Dibley?
And
in the battle of the families, will it be the Royles or the Trotters
that come out on top?
Joined
by a fantastic cast of familiar faces from across the world of entertainment,
Jonathan will provide viewers with the definitive guide to the greatest
sitcoms ever made using a combination of classic clips, unforgettable
catchphrases, behind the scenes anecdotes and unseen footage revealed
for the first time on British television.
Following
the launch, over the next ten Saturday nights, there will be in-depth
one hour documentaries on each of the Top 10, presented by celebrity
advocates doing some unusual things in the most unexpected places!
Each
of them will give revealing insights about each programme.
Their
words of wisdom could be crucial as the nation will then have the
final say in determining, once and for all, Britain's Best Sitcom,
which will be announced in a live spectacular programme on 27 March.
