Hearne
to edit BBC London News
Cath
Hearne is to be the new Editor of BBC London News.
She
will take up her new post later this month, replacing Quentin Smith
who has become Output Editor of the BBC's South East regional news
programme, South East Today.
Cath
is currently Editorial Co-ordinator for the BBC's Nations and Regions,
where she was responsible for co-ordinating the successful launches
of the new regional current affairs programme Inside Out and the
transfer and integration of the regional politics programme into
The Politics Show on BBC ONE.
Cath
said: "I've been working in London for the past three years
and love it!
"I
have great respect for the BBC London team and all they've achieved
since the move to Marylebone High Street.
"I'm
really looking forward to joining them."
Cath
has worked on launches of BBC Breakfast and the Ten o'clock News
with responsibility for the editorial integration between the BBC's
Nations and Regions and Network news.
In
BBC Nations and Regions, Cath's most significant work has been on
the move of all English Regions programming onto BBC ONE.
In
addition to Inside Out and The Politics Show, she has most recently
overseen the move of the afternoon bulletin to BBC ONE and the integration
of the weekend bulletins.
She
also managed the re-launch of new BBC regional newsroom sets and
titles last summer.
Previously
Cath has been a studio director in BBC North East and Cumbria where
she won RTS Best Regional Programme and worked on the regional current
affairs programme.
She
also worked for Radio 4's File on Four for a short time and was
a director on Premier Passions, a five-part BBC ONE documentary
broadcast in 1998 following the fortunes of Sunderland AFC.
Executive
Editor for BBC London, Mike Macfarlane, says: "Cath has a very
clear and embracing vision for taking BBC London News forward.
"Coupled
