Andi
Peters to head up BBC Television pop programming
Andi
Peters is returning to the BBC in a newly created senior role -
Executive Editor, Popular Music.
This
new role gives him responsibility for developing and managing a
wide range of music and lifestyle programmes aimed at the youth
audience.
Andi
will also take on responsibilities for a number of existing pop
music shows including the UK and worldwide editions of Top of the
Pops - the world's biggest pop music programme.
Andi
Peters will have a central role in BBC Music Entertainment, the
biggest producer of music programming in the country.
The
whole Music Entertainment department is lead by Mark Cooper and
produces over 200 hours of output each year.
This
includes Top of the Pops, TOTP2, Later with Jools Holland, Trevor
Nelson's Lowdown for BBC THREE, the BBC's coverage of Glastonbury,
BBC FOUR's coverage of non-classical music and a raft of music documentary
programming on subjects from Robbie Williams to The Rolling Stones.
Andi
says: "I'm delighted to be returning to the place where I produced
my first programme.
"The
skills I developed there have stood me in good stead throughout
my career and after an eight year gap from the BBC I'm looking forward
to working with the new talent at the corporation."

Andi's
presenting career at the BBC began as the presenter of children's
shows such as But First This, CBBC 2, The Ozone, The Travel Quiz,
Take Two, EEK, Short Change and providing the links for children's
programmes from the Broom Cupboard.
Prime
time broadcasting included Good Fortune, Children in Need and the
Smash Hits Awards - where he was also voted Top Personality on TV
for two consecutive years.
From
1993 until 1996 Andi presented Live & Kicking on Saturday mornings
and had by this stage moved into programme making - producing The
Ozone and CBBC specials.
In
1996 Andi moved to LWT where he produced the Saturday night special
An Audience With The Spice Girls, a Boyzone Special and Gladiators:
Train 2 Win as well as presenting The Weekend Show and The Noise.
Andi
was appointed Executive Producer, Music Programmes at LWT before
moving to Channel 4 in March 1998 to become Commissioning Editor,
Children and Young People.
While
at Channel 4 he created and developed the successful youth strand
T4 and oversaw a number of productions including Big Breakfast,
Party In The Park 2001, the drama As If and reality series Shipwrecked.
He
also presented a number of Andi meets... in depth interviews with
the likes of Ricky Martin, Britney Spears and the makers of Toy
Story 2 which was screened on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve - which
resulted in Andi getting a cameo as a character in the movie itself.
Since
leaving Channel 4, Andi has continued to Executive Produce programming,
the most recent of which was An Audience With Kylie (ITV1) and Record
of the Year (ITV1).
His
recent presenting credits include Celebrity and Rich and Famous
for ITV1.
Along
side this new role he will continue to present television programmes
and also his Hit Music Sunday radio show on the Capital Network.
The
role is effective immediately and Andi will join the BBC full time
on 1 September 2003.
