BBC appoints new Controller of Learning & Interactive


Liz Cleaver has been appointed Controller, Learning and Interactive at the BBC making her the Corporation's most senior executive in Learning.


She will fold her current responsibilities as Controller of Interactive Factual and Learning into her new role which will she will step up to in early July.


Liz Cleaver will be responsible for ensuring that learning continues to be fully integrated into the Factual and Learning division and draws on the strength of the whole BBC and key external partners, to inspire people to learn.


She will encourage the delivery of innovative programmes and interactive products into the school curriculum and to adults alike – at home, at work and in the community.


As Controller of Interactive Factual and Learning, Liz Cleaver has overseen a 250-strong production team and the development of some ground breaking and award-winning interactive and online output and content – including Walking with Beasts, Life of Mammals and Pyramid, and the recently launched WW2 People's War site.


She brings a vast range of experience on all platforms and genres.


"This is a fantastic time for the BBC to really think creatively about the way we deliver learning, and I'm really looking forward to finding new ways of ensuring Learning remains at the heart of the organisation," Liz Cleaver said.


Prior to joining Factual and Learning, Liz Cleaver was Head of Programming for BBC Knowledge, from its launch. Before that she worked as Commissioning Executive in BBC Education and saw the launch of GCSE Bitesize revision. She has also worked in TV and Radio.


John Willis, Director of Factual and Learning, added: "With her vast experience in education and interactivity I know that Liz will be an inspiring leader for learning. I very much look forward to working with her."
