Antony
Sher and Kristin Scott Thomas star in new productions for BBC FOUR
A timely
celebration of the work of JG Ballard, with a season including a
new adaptation of his short story The Enormous Space, starring Antony
Sher, is to be shown on BBC FOUR later this year.
Continuing
BBC FOUR's commitment to bringing the best of London's theatre to
television, the channel also announces the filming of Christopher
Hampton's acclaimed adaptation of Chekhov's Three Sisters from London's
Playhouse Theatre, starring Kristin Scott Thomas.
Nicola
Moody, Acting Controller, BBC FOUR, says: "Seasons are a trademark
of BBC FOUR - in its first year the channel devoted seasons to the
works of Pinter and Poliakoff.
"I'm
delighted that we will be continuing this tradition by celebrating
such a giant of contemporary British fiction as JG Ballard.
"The
centrepiece of the season will be Home, a new adaptation of his
chilling short story The Enormous Space starring Antony Sher."
BBC
FOUR's scoop of current West End hit Three Sisters, with a stunning
performance by Kristin Scott Thomas, follows such recent successes
on the channel as Michael Frayn's Copenhagen, A Day In The Death
Of Joe Egg starring Eddie Izzard, On An Average Day and Richard
Eyre's production of Vincent in Brixton.
The
JG Ballard season, which coincides with the publication of his new
novel Millenium People, includes documentaries, a profile interview
and little-known archive films as well as drama.
