John Dickie appointed Head of Political & Parliamentary Affairs at the BBC

John Dickie has been appointed Head of Political & Parliamentary Affairs at the BBC.

John has been the Regulatory Affairs Director of the European Competitive Telecommunications Association, which advises over 200 EU telecommunications companies, for the last two years.

Prior to this he spent ten years as a public policy consultant, initially with Prima (1989-1998) and then GPC (1998-2000), providing high level policy and political advice to major UK and international companies.

John will be joining the BBC on Monday 10 February 2003 and will work closely with David Levy, Controller Public Policy.

John will be taking over from Michael Hastings who is transferring into his new role as Head of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Caroline Thomson, BBC Director of Public Policy, says: "The changeover happens at a key stage for the BBC with the Communications Bill working its way through Parliament.

"The BBC has been fortunate in having Michael to pilot us safely through these waters since 1995, first as Deputy then as Head of Political & Parliamentary Affairs.

"Michael's political nous, diplomatic skills and sheer friendliness have been an immense asset to the BBC but I know that John will step ably into his shoes, building on the strong position Michael has built for us in both Houses of Parliament.

"I am very grateful for Michael's dedication and greatly pleased that he will be leading the BBC's new Corporate Social Responsibility unit."
