"Little Robots rocks!" says Lenny Henry

Little Robots come to CBeebies on 7 January 2003

Lenny Henry, Martin Clunes, Emma Chambers, Mel and Sue, Morwenna Banks and Su Pollard have all lent their voices to a lively and colourful new animation series, Little Robots, which premieres on CBeebies on BBC TWO from 7 January 2003.

Lenny Henry, who voices the robot Sporty, comments: "I enjoyed working with such talented colleagues. We had a lot of fun. Little Robots rocks!"

Based on the acclaimed children's book by Mike Brownlow, published by Ragged Bears Publishing, Little Robots is an electrifying new production for older pre-schoolers.

Vanessa Chapman, Co-Executive Producer, says: "A number of top comedians have voiced pre-school series in recent years, but Little Robots is the first series to contain such a varied wealth of the UK's comedy talent. They really bring the characters to life - and we've shown them the finished results and they're thrilled!"

Tiny, the central figure of the series, and his little robot friends are pioneers, builders and architects of a brand new world.

Finding themselves abandoned on a metal scrapheap, they use their combined skills, vision and imagination to turn the nuts, bolts and junk around them into a place they can call home.

The spirit of friendship is integral to the show and each episode finds the Little Robots working together to overcome the challenges, solve the problems and enjoy the adventures they encounter in their world.

In the clockwork-powered world of the Little Robots, a metal dome houses a sun, moon, trees and homes - all made by the Little Robots.

A lever makes the sky turn from day to night, wind a wheel and flowers grow, while discarded radiators, tyres and magnets are transformed into homes.

It's a place full of boundless exuberance, friendship and daily discovery.

Notes to Editors

Little Robots is produced by the award-winning animation house, Cosgrove Hall Films.

The series will be shown first on CBeebies on BBC TWO with a repeat later in the year on CBeebies digital service.

Lenny Henry voices Sporty, a robot obsessed with fitness and physical activity, who is continually trying to better himself, although he is slightly lacking in confidence.

Martin Clunes voices Stripy. Although the biggest, he is the quietest of all the robots and moves with a certain slow grace. Stripy loves plants and has built a garden out of metal. His constant companion is his teddy.

Emma Chambers voices Spotty. Methodical, a little bossy, and a stickler for rules and regulations, most of which she makes up herself. Her enthusiasm verges on hysteria and she is an eternal optimist.

Mel and Sue are the Sparky Twins, bright, strong, feisty, fast moving and fast-talking robots who create fun and mischief in equal measure.

Morwenna Banks is Rusty, a very gentle and sweet robot with a strong need to help others. She is rather nervous and clumsy, with a child-like crush on Sporty, which causes her to overheat.

Su Pollard voices Noisy, a robot who lives her life as if it were a musical. With a trumpet-like nose, she loves to sing - and does so everywhere.
