Ruby Wax to play the Pope and Jerry Hall to play a nun in new BBC THREE animated series: Popetown

Popetown is a ten-part animated sitcom that looks at the daily nuisances that exist in any workplace - with one twist.

This workplace is the Vatican and the CEO happens to be the Pope.

Popetown centres around the long-suffering and good hearted Father Nicholas (Kevin Eldon - Brass Eye, I'm Alan Partridge, Big Train) and his daily struggle against life's ups and downs.

Ruby Wax is the voice of the Pope, Jerry Hall plays Sister Penelope, the Popetown TV reporter, and Morwenna Banks is Sister Marie, Father Nicholas's devoted and innocent assistant.

The cast also includes Matt Lucas (Shooting Stars, Rock Profiles), Mackenzie Crook (The Office) and Simon Greenall (Alan Partridge).

A commission for BBC THREE from CHX Productions and French TV company, Moi J’aime La Television, Popetown is directed by Phil Ox (MJTV) and features the writing talents of Mackenzie Crook and David Quantick.

Popetown comes to BBC THREE in 2004.
