Did you know that the BBCi studio...

is the first purpose built live chat studio in the UK open to public
interaction

· is one of very few buildings
in the UK to have interactivity built into the architecture via
"thru glass" technology. This allows passers-by to use
the intuitive interface placed on the windows to interact directly
with large plasma screens inside the studio.

Situated on one of the busiest roundabouts in Europe and in full
public view, it is a unique facility delivering services across
disparate platforms, providing a first class, high quality set for
major celebrities and an exciting environment for the public.

Live Chats and 12 Chatrooms each week

one hub for celebrity, expert and event-based chat, the home of
the ipresenters and a main source of exclusive news, information
and entertainment.
· houses four interlinked spaces:
the Live Chat Studio, Window based interactivity, Interactive Operations
and a Creative Space - all of which give passers-by a glimpse at
the workings of BBCi.
· boasts 2.5 miles of video
and audio cables, 250 inches of state of the art plasma screens
and 27 screens displaying the best of BBCi content.
· includes 5 large windows,
2 of which are interactive with heat sensitive buttons, that provide
a glimpse of life inside BBCi
· houses the team that is responsible
for monitoring the quality of BBCi, which generates over half a
billion page impressions a month and delivers as many audio and
video streams as the rest of the BBC output put together.
· encompasses the record breaking
Live Chat team which recently logged 14,000 unique users for a single
event featuring Louis Theroux
· has already received a nomination
for AV Magazine AV System of the Year Award
This
is just the start! At the moment, the public can take part in live
chats via SMS and interactive TV, as well as sample the best of
BBCi's current live services and recent successes.
In
the future, developments will mean passers-by can download the latest
content via a PDA, vote on the issues of the day or even contribute
content via mobile - the sky is the limit.
