Franny Moyle appointed as Head of Arts Commissioning for BBC
Television
Franny
Moyle has been appointed by Jana Bennett, Director of Television,
as new Head of Arts Commissioning, BBC Television.
Making
the appointment, Jana Bennett said: "As Creative Director for
Arts, Franny has already played a key role as leader of the London
arts production team, overseeing programmes such as Dickens and
Reading the Decades.
"Arts
is at a moment of creative renewal at the BBC - from Art That Shook
the World on BBC TWO to the launch of a major new arts strand on
BBC ONE next year.
"Arts
programming is core to all channels and services across the BBC
and Franny will work with me on helping to deliver ever more ambitious,
bolder arts output across our Television services."
Franny
Moyle said: "I'm absolutely delighted. The job is a real challenge,
but also a huge opportunity because there is a moment now for a
new generation of ideas in our programme making and I'm really excited
about that.
"I'm
looking forward to working with some of the very best producers
in the world."
In
her new role, Franny will have full responsibility for commissioning
arts and music output from the whole UK production base for all
BBC analogue and digital television channels in partnership with
the channel controllers.
With
a commitment of over 245 hours of arts and music per year on analogue
alone and an annual budget of approximately £50 million, Franny
will report directly to Jana Bennett, Director of Television, but
with a dotted line to Glenwyn Benson, Joint Director of Factual
& Learning, as the post will also have responsibility in ensuring
co-ordinated, 360 degree commissioning across all platforms.
Franny
succeeds Roly Keating, who was appointed Controller of BBC FOUR
in December 2001.
