Les
Dennis and Bob Mortimer Weigh-in For Sport Relief
Les "The Blond Bomber" Dennis weighed in at 12st 10 lb,
whilst his opponent Bob "The Woodpecker" Mortimer tipped
the scales at 10st 11lb when the pair took part in a pre-boxing
match weigh-in for Sport Relief - the new fundraising extravaganza
from Comic Relief and the BBC.
The two sparring partners will be taking part in a three round comedy
charity boxing bout, being encouraged from their corners by Amanda
Holden and Vic Reeves. This will be transmitted on BBC ONE on 13
July as one of the highlights of Sport Relief.
Clad in boxing gear and sporting the new Sport Relief medal, the
two comedians stepped up today on the scales under the supervision
of Alan Lacey, from the International White Collar Boxing Association.
Les and Bob have used the opportunity as a great incentive to get
fit. Bob Mortimer has been training under Barry McGuigan, who is
also his mentor, at a gym in Faversham and Les Dennis has attended
the legendary Kronk Gym under the eagle eye of Jim Macdonnell. Les'
mentor is Frank Bruno.
Although the fight is very light-hearted all safety steps have been
taken - both competitors will box with maximum protection - gloves,
headgear and protectors. Dr Sandra Scott, the bout's official medical
advisor, has been making sure the pair shape up.
Film crews have followed both competitors through their training
and both Les and Bob will be making video diaries of their efforts
which will be shown as part of Sport Relief.
