

New Head of Publicity for BBC TWO
Laura
Smith, currently Media Relations Manager for Granada, has been appointed
the new Head of Publicity for BBC TWO.
Laura,
who has been instrumental in shaping the profile of Granada's
media operation and in launching their new services, will be responsible
for the strategic direction of BBC TWO's communications and the
channel's output.
Vanda
Rumney, Head of Publicity, said: "Laura
brings a wealth of experience in talent management and programme
publicity - covering the genres and both analogue and digital television.
She also has a broad ability to bring strategic communications direction
to BBC TWO. We are delighted she is to become part of the team."
Laura
Smith said: "BBC
TWO is in great shape, with eight recent BAFTA wins and with some
really exciting programmes still to come. I am looking forward to
helping to further enhance its profile and build on its already
strong reputation."
Laura
began her career with the BBC in 1988 as an office trainee, becoming
a publicity assistant in documentaries later in the same year.
In
1991 she moved to Thames TV as a press officer, two years later
joining London Weekend Television to work on press for factual programmes,
including Jonathan Dimbleby; Kinnock - The Inside Story; Charles
at 50; The London Programme; Airline; and Richard Littlejohn Live
and Uncut. She was seconded to the digital broadcasting group, Granada
Sky Broadcasting, promoting Talk TV, in 1996.
She
became Chief Press Officer for Granada (South) in 1998 and became
Media Relations Manager in February 2000.
