New Head of Publicity for BBC TWO

Laura Smith, currently Media Relations Manager for Granada, has been appointed the new Head of Publicity for BBC TWO.

Laura, who has been instrumental in shaping the profile of Granada'’s media operation and in launching their new services, will be responsible for the strategic direction of BBC TWO's communications and the channel's output.

Vanda Rumney, Head of Publicity, said: "Laura brings a wealth of experience in talent management and programme publicity - covering the genres and both analogue and digital television. She also has a broad ability to bring strategic communications direction to BBC TWO. We are delighted she is to become part of the team."

Laura Smith said: "BBC TWO is in great shape, with eight recent BAFTA wins and with some really exciting programmes still to come. I am looking forward to helping to further enhance its profile and build on its already strong reputation."

Laura began her career with the BBC in 1988 as an office trainee, becoming a publicity assistant in documentaries later in the same year.

In 1991 she moved to Thames TV as a press officer, two years later joining London Weekend Television to work on press for factual programmes, including Jonathan Dimbleby; Kinnock - The Inside Story; Charles at 50; The London Programme; Airline; and Richard Littlejohn Live and Uncut. She was seconded to the digital broadcasting group, Granada Sky Broadcasting, promoting Talk TV, in 1996.

She became Chief Press Officer for Granada (South) in 1998 and became Media Relations Manager in February 2000.
