Test The Nation – Results

A massive 95,000 people logged on and took part live on the web in the BBC's unique attempt to Test the Nation.

Hosts Anne Robinson and Phillip Schofield revealed in the BBC ONE show last night that:
· people of Leicester have the highest IQ with a score of 119;
· the West was the brightest region with a score of 115;
· the studio's highest scoring celebrity was triple jumper Jonathan Edwards with a score of 126 with Dane Bowers coming second and Andrew Neil coming third;
· Northern Ireland and England tie for the Nations highest rated with a score of 108;
· in the battle of the sexes, men scored higher than women with 111 compared to 104;
· West Bromwich football supporters are the champions of our league scoring 138;
· in the studio, teachers came top with a score of 104 leaving the twins, blondes and celebrities all trailing with 97;
· Tim Rigby, a student from Shrewsbury, Shropshire scored the highest IQ in the studio with a score of 137;
· Keith Jowett, from North Surrey, was revealed as the most intelligent person on the web with a score of 149, beating all those taking part in the studio.
· left handed people scored 109, slightly higher than right handed people with 108;
· Aquarians came top of the astrological chart scoring 110 with Scorpions coming bottom with a score of 106;

The average IQ is 100. A score between 90 and 110 indicates average intelligence; over 110 points is in the highest 25%, meanwhile anyone with an IQ of 130 or above can consider themselves in the top 2% of the population.

For those that did not get the chance to take part on the night, the test remains live on the web for the next two weeks at www.bbc.co.uk/testthenation.

Anne Robinson said: "I am thrilled and privileged to have been a part of tv history. I've never experienced an atmosphere like it in a studio. I am delighted a handsome student came top in the studio and that Jonathan Edwards has brains as well as beauty."

Test The Nation was a Talent TV production in association with Dutch independent production company, Eyeworks.

Lorraine Heggessey, Controller, BBC ONE said: "This was a huge risk that paid off. It was a highly interactive entertainment format that pushed technology to its limit but also allowed viewers to take part either with pen and paper, online or via interactive tv. We are really proud of this national event we created on BBC ONE last night."
