Pilgrims’ Progress - The story of Boston United’s promotion to the Football League

Thursday 2 May, BBC TWO, 7.30pm (BBC Yorks & Lincs & BBC East Midlands)

The inside story of how Boston United FC achieved promotion to the Football League is told in a special BBC documentary on Thursday 2 May.

"The Pilgrims" have been promoted from the Conference - and BBC cameras were there to follow them every step of the way as the excitement mounted.

Boston United beat Hayes 2-0 on Sunday to secure their place in the Football League - it's the biggest success in the club's history after going neck and neck with Dagenham & Redbridge in their race for the title.

On Pilgrims’ Progress the cameras follow:

· Steve Evans, the charismatic Boston Manager - who lives every moment of the action on the field;
· the husband and wife team who run the club who haven't had a holiday in 23 years because football takes up all their time;
· the goalkeeper who is married to the daughter of the businessman who owns the team;
· the hot-shot striker who is the Conference's leading scorer...

and the thousands of fans who've willed the team onto their greatest ever triumph.

Steve Evans tells Pilgrims’ Progress: "It's been a rollercoaster ride. But it's been a fantastic achievement and that's down to the players, the staff here at the club and the fans. We're not just here to consolidate in Division Three - we’re going to do our best to move onwards and upwards."

BBC Producer, Paul Greenan, said: "Boston's story is a fairytale. Winning promotion was the only goal at the start of the season and Boston have done it. The film captures the highs and anticipation as Boston go for the greatest moment of glory in their history."
