BBC CHOICE
Radio
1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs presents a brand new series
about global biker culture, Mary Annes
Bikes. Shes been around the world on the
hunt for the most extraordinary characters that
this sub-culture has to offer, interviewing
everyone from Stunt Champions in Bollywood to
Outlaw Club Presidents in Moscow.
Mary Annes Bikes comes to BBC CHOICE on
5 February 2002 at 11.30pm
Mary Anne has been a bike fanatic for 21 years,
she began riding at age 16 on a Puch moped!
In
the series she unlocks a world that in many
cases has never let in outsiders. Shes
travelled across Japan, Russia, India, the USA
and Europe, meeting people who are obsessive
about their machines: Theres all-female
biker groups like the Black Divas On Wheels
in the States; the 70 year old ex-bank clerk
whos tattooed and pierced his whole body
and face; Japans Mafia linked Bozozoku
gang; Britains heroic Superbike star Neil
Hogson; plus the revelation that Laura Ashleys
son has ditched the floral smock in favour of
urban bikewear.
In the show Mary Anne meets and talks to everyone
from the Hells Angels spiritual leader
Sonny Barger to people you might never have
expected to be dedicated riders such as ex-Dallas
star Larry Hagman. Shes been to Wheelie
School, had a go at racing, and even been tattooed
herself for the series.
Mary Annes Bikes - Not just for petrolheads,
but for anyone whos ever had their head
turned by a beautiful motorcycle.
