ABOUT THE BBC

BBC appoints Head of Training

Nigel Paine has been appointed to the new position of Head of Training at the BBC, leading the development and provision of the BBC’s internal and external training and development services.

He will develop learning experiences designed to equip individuals with the skills needed for their roles now and in the future, exploiting a wide range of learning opportunities in creative and innovative ways and strengthening the BBC’s culture of learning.

Stephen Dando, Head of Human Resources and Internal Communications said: "I am confident that Nigel has the drive and vision to take BBC Training forward in the new era of broadcasting. He brings to us a wealth of experience in the field of training and development, having worked in both the public and private sector. As he would say himself, training is ‘in his blood’."

Nigel Paine said: "I believe passionately in investing in people and that an individual’s skills and personal development should be valued. I am looking forward to taking on one of the most challenging and exciting training and development jobs in the world, particularly at a time when learning and technology are imperative in the age of digital broadcasting."

Currently Director of Science Year, an initiative managed by The National Endowment of Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills, Nigel has wide ranging experience in the field of adult learning, with particular expertise in learning technology.

This is the first of three senior appointments across Development and Training at the BBC as part of a restructure of the department.
