Beat the Streets, the show
with its ear to the ground, on BBC TWO Scotland
Beat
The Streets, an exciting new 20-part entertainment
series transmits on Tuesday 8 January 2002 at
8.00pm on BBC TWO Scotland. It is hosted by
quick-witted funnyman, Alan Tyler (The Sundays,Trial
by Night, Edinburgh Nights, The Bigger Breakfast,
Seven Days).
Beat
the Streets is a fast paced fun quiz show with
its finger on the pulse of everyday pop culture.
In it the contestants choose everything. They
choose their questions, their opponents, their
score and the time in which they have to answer
questions. If they reach the final, they even
get to choose their prize.
But
to take that prize, its got to be won.
And the only way to do that is to beat
the streets in the shape of the Street
Stars - a pool of 35 individually cast members
of the public, a colourful crew of characters
from all walks of life across Scotland. The
Street Stars include a 48-year-old belly dancer,
a Tae Kwon Do expert from Bathgate, a window
cleaner from Forfar, a lollipop man, a double-barrelled
lawyer, an East End fishmonger, a cheerleader
and a DJ, so expect a crazy brew of banter.
The
choices made by the contestants test just how
street wise they really are and they must draw
on everything they think they know about people,
places and how Scotland, as individuals think
and behave. It totally blows away any pre-conceived
notions and judgements regarding age, sex or
occupation.
Each
30 minute show sees three studio contestants
pit their wits against seven of the Street Stars,
who appear on plasma screens in the studio,
over the course of five very different rounds.
As the games unfold points are collected towards
the chance of playing in the final round for
a prize chosen by the contestant.
