BBC ONE's 6.30pm regional news is the most popular news slot - national or local - on British television, watched by an average of around six million people every day.

Each week almost half the adult population - more than 24 million viewers - tune in to watch BBC Regional TV news programmes.

BBC television news regions are now more local than ever before with new and expanded services based in Tunbridge Wells, Hull, Oxford, Cambridge and the Channel Islands.

The BBC is committed to creating a new regional news service for central England, based in Milton Keynes, in the next 10 years.

All the Nations and Regions news services on BBC ONE are now available to Digital Satellite viewers anywhere in the country, plus the full BBC ONE and BBC TWO services for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

All English regional current affairs and political programmes moved last year to new high-profile slots on BBC ONE, where their audiences have more than doubled.
