Peter Phippen was appointed Managing Director of BBC Magazines in 2001. BBC Magazines is the third largest consumer magazine publisher in the UK.
Peter is responsible for all BBC Worldwide's magazine titles in the UK and for the global expansion of the business. The company now has interests or licences in more than 50 countries.
He is also a Director of Dovetail Ltd (subscription fulfilment), Chairman of Frontline (distribution), Chairman of Bristol Magazines Ltd, Chairman of BBC Haymarket Exhibitions, and Chairman of Worldwide Media – a joint venture in India.
In addition, Peter is Chairman of the PPA – the industry's trade body – and a Director of FIPP (the international trade body).
Peter was appointed Managing director of BBC Worldwide's Children's & Licensing business in 2008.
Previously, Peter was President and Chief Executive Officer of BBC Worldwide Americas, Inc. (BBCWWA), a wholly owned subsidiary of BBC Worldwide, a position he took up in August 1998.
Peter began his career in 1982 as a graduate trainee at IPC Media. Peter spent his teenage years in Devon.
He graduated from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge in Philosophy and Psychology. He lives in Buckinghamshire.
