Olexiy Solohubenko is Executive Editor, Americas and Europe Region.
He had previously been Executive Editor for Eurasia, a region which includes BBC services for Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Caucasus and Central Asia.
Before that, from 1996 to 2003, he was Head of the Ukrainian Service which, as the first recruit from Ukraine, he had helped to set up when he joined BBC World Service in 1992.
Olexiy began his broadcasting career at Radio Kiev.
Before that, after graduating from the Kiev Institute of Foreign Languages, he worked as a teacher in a village school in the Kiev Region and as a translator and interpreter before becoming a journalist.
Olexiy Solohubenko was born and educated in Ukraine. He has an MPhil in Government and Media Studies from Manchester University.
