Lucio Mesquita has been Head of the Americas Region
since 2002.
He had been Head of the Brazilian Service since 1999
and, before that, was a Programme Editor with World Update.
Before joining the BBC in 1991 as a producer in the
Brazilian Service, Lucio Mesquita had worked as a producer, editor,
presenter and anchor for 24-hour news station Radio Jovem; and as a
proof reader, image library manager and freelance journalist for the
daily broadsheet O Estado de Sao Paulo.
Lucio Mesquita has an MA in journalism from Faculdade
de Comunicacao Social Casper Libero, Sao Paulo.
He speaks Portuguese and Spanish and his special interests
are Latin American affairs and linguistics.
He lives in London with his partner and their two children.
