As Controller, Michael Carrington is editorially and creatively responsible for the award-winning BBC's children's brand, CBeebies.
He commissions all content across radio, television, and online – guiding audience research, development, on-air presentation, programming, scheduling, marketing and communications.
Michael has worked with many different formats from in-house and independent suppliers, including live-action drama, studio-based shows and animation production.
He has a deep understanding of how to deliver great content for children, and has successfully commissioned programmes like BAFTA award-winner Charlie And Lola, comedy drama hit Grandpa In My Pocket and International Emmy award-winning Shaun The Sheep.
Under Michael's creative leadership, CBeebies has enjoyed its highest-ever ratings success, reached one million unique users of the CBeebies website and won the British Academy award (BAFTA) for Children's Channel of the Year which recognises innovation, commissioning, creative scheduling and impact on viewers.
Throughout his career Michael Carrington has worked for some of the world's premier media companies including Network Ten Australia, The Discovery Channel (Europe) and LEGO Media.
Michael became creative leader of CBeebies in May 2006.
He is a member of the BBC Children's Board, the BBC Vision Editorial Group and the BBC's Leadership Group.
He is also a member of the British Academy of Film & Television Arts and regularly speaks at industry events.
Michael moved to the UK from Australia in January 1990.
