Steve currently co-commentates on the MotoGP series for the BBC.

Steve turned professional motor cycle racer in 1976 at the age of 22, joining Barry Sheene in the Suzuki GP team and taking fifth place in the 500cc World Championship in 1977. In 1978 and 1979 he clinched the British Motor Cycle Championships, and then in 1980 he joined Yamaha, winning many European and British races.

1984 saw the introduction of truck racing to the European circuits and Steve has since proved to be the most successful truck racer in history, taking five World titles.

He retired from two-wheel riding in 1986 and in 1990 joined the BBC as technical presenter and commentator for both the British and World Motor Cycle Championships. In his 25th year as a professional sportsman, Steve recently made his first entry into the Guinness Book of Records for the “Fastest Speed Achieved in Reverse” (85mph) using a Caterham car.
