Simon is a principal commentator for both
Match Of The Day and BBC Radio 5 Live.
Simon's career began with BBC local radio
while he was still at school, and developed
further while he was studying at Birmingham
University – where he joined Birmingham's local
BBC radio station, WM.
In 1990, Simon joined
the BBC and has commentated
on a variety of headline programmes including
the 1998, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups,
Euro 1996, Euro 2000, Euro 2004, the 2002
and 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, the 1998
and 2002 UEFA Champions League Final and
the 1999 UEFA Cup Final.
Simon was also a key member of the BBC's
broadcast team at the 2002 and 2006
Commonwealth Games, as well as the last
three Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996, Sydney
2000 and Athens 2004) and has commentated
on the successes of Bradley Wiggins, Chris
Hoy, Audley Harrison and Amir Khan.
He has also commentated on world title fights
including those involving Lennox Lewis, Naseem
Hamed, Frank Bruno, Mike Tyson and Evander
Holyfield.
Simon has reported from the last 12 Tour de
France races, including all of Lance Armstrong's
six victories, Formula 1, World
Championship boxing, Grand Prix, athletics
and baseball's World Series.
