Coventry-born Laura is arguably Britain's most outstanding female golfer. She began playing amateur golf in 1970 and turned professional in 1985.

By the start of the 2006 season, Laura had accumulated 20 official victories on the LPGA Tour. She finished top of the money list in 1994 and was second in the following two years. At the same date she had more than 37 victories on the Ladies' European Tour and she topped that tour's order of merit in 1985, 1986, 1992, 1996, 1999 and 2004.

Laura is the only player to participate in all nine Solheim Cup teams to date (1990-2005) on either the United States or European side. She was also the first woman to compete in the men's European Tour event, entering the ANZ Championship in Sydney in 2004.

In 1998 Laura was awarded an MBE, and in 1999 was awarded a CBE. She joined the BBC in the summer of 2001, commentating on the Open, and since then has regularly appeared in the commentary box for major golfing events on the BBC.
