Over the past 25 years, Dave has worked on seven Olympic Games (taking the editorial lead in Sydney and Athens); six Winter Olympics and seven Commonwealth Games. He also leads the editorial coverage of the BBC’s athletics events including the London Marathon, Great North Run and World and European Championships.

 

He has won numerous awards including BAFTAs for leading the teams at the Sydney and Athens Olympics as well as the Manchester Commonwealth Games. For four months in 2005, he was Acting Director of Sport. He is currently leading BBC Sport’s preparations for the Beijing and London Olympics.

 

Dave’s BBC career started after university in 1972, when he became a Radio Studio Manager, specialising in news, current affairs and sports programmes. He became a Producer and then Senior Producer in 1983. By 1984, he was editing daily sport news coverage.

 

Dave moved to television in 1985 and was appointed an Assistant Producer in TV Sport. Following spells on Grandstand and then Sportsnight, he was made Assistant Editor of Grandstand in March 1990, Editor in October 1991, and Executive Editor in 1997.

 

Outside work, he is a lifelong supporter of Fulham Football Club and is struggling to learn to play the saxophone.
