Golf commentator Andrew originally hails from Troon, in Ayrshire. He has a degree in French and Philosophy from Glasgow University.
He played golf for Scottish Schools and Scottish Universities, but has rugby in the family; his grandfather played for Scotland. Following his graduation, Andrew spent a year working as a waiter before beginning his broadcasting career with Scot FM in Edinburgh.
On joining the BBC in March 2000, he primarily worked with Radio Five Live. As rugby commentator, he has covered the Six Nations for radio and also did commentary for Five Live at the 2003 World Cup in Australia. He began working as a TV commentator in 2004; his first international match commentary for television was Scotland versus Italy in March of that year.
As a golf commentator for radio and television, he has reported from the Open Championship and the Ryder Cup as well as the Masters, the US Open and USPGA. Andrew also presents sports bulletins on BBC News 24 and BBC World.
