Emily Wood is one of BBC South West's television and radio presenters and part of the multimedia weather team.
Emily's interest in radio started while she was at university in Manchester after a friend asked her to help him out on his student radio show – mainly by laughing at his jokes!
Emily was hooked and went on to help produce other shows for the student radio station, as well as presenting her own.
Following a post-university trip to Australia and New Zealand, Emily returned to Devon and continued her involvement with radio, helping out at, and presenting on, Derriford Hospital's radio station.
It was there she heard about volunteering at BBC Radio Devon through the Community Service Volunteers programme.
In the summer of 2006 Emily started volunteering on the Community Action Desk at Radio Devon for two-and-a-half days a week, while balancing her volunteer work with hospital radio and an evening job to keep some money coming in.
Emily says: "It was all a bit hectic, but it was worth it as I got my big break when I heard BBC Radio Devon needed someone to present the travel bulletin. I offered my services and unbelievably they agreed!"
After a year-and-a-half of doing various bits and pieces at Radio Devon, the job as weather presenter for the BBC South West weather team came up.
Emily says: "I've always been fascinated by the weather. Living in this country it's hard not to be! So I applied and was really thrilled when I got the job.
"It's such a fantastic opportunity to speak to so many people in the South West about everyone's favourite topic of conversation.
"There's been a lot to learn, but I feel incredibly lucky to do such an interesting job in a beautiful part of the world."
