Peter Henley reports from Westminster for regional news programme BBC South Today. He also presents the region's Politics Show, is a regular contributor on local radio and writes for BBC Online.

He trained as a local reporter in Cornwall and then Yorkshire before moving to Reading. He's stayed in the south of England ever since, covering five elections and interviewing all the party leaders since Edward Heath.

Peter joined the BBC as a Health Correspondent in 2001, and won awards for an investigation into the mysterious deaths of elderly patients at a cottage hospital and a series of reports into the effects of asbestos in the building trade.

He started his TV career with TVS and ITV Meridian, filing from Kuwait during the first Gulf War and winning a Sony radio award for coverage of the Clapham train crash.

Favourite assignments include flying to Antigua at three hours' notice to report on a volcano erupting and mysteriously being unable to come straight home...

Peter enjoys old cars, new gadgets and playing cricket. He lives in the New Forest with his three sons and wife Sam, who's a teacher and counsellor.
