Rob Matheson is a presenter of BBC Scotland's TV news bulletins.
Whilst studying for a diploma in journalism at Edinburgh's Napier College (now University), Rob worked as a presenter on a BBC Radio Scotland youth series and also reported for the station's travel show.
He then worked in London on local newspapers before returning to Scotland to present a breakfast show for a commercial radio station based in Paisley.
He freelanced as a reporter and duty editor for another local radio station before being given the chance to front a weekly show for Radio Scotland.
That led to reporting and presenting shifts on the station's early morning business show, Daybreak.
Next was BBC Scotland's Presentation Department where Rob read the news on Radio Scotland and controlled the transmission of BBC Scotland's TV and radio output – occasionally at the same time.
In February 2006 he launched Nightshift, Radio Scotland's through-the-night programme.
Rob and his wife live in Argyll and Bute. A keen traveller and sportsman, Rob is a qualified open-water diver, enthusiastic skier, would love to learn to sail and enjoys hill-walking – which he never seems to find the time to do.
