Jane Fowler

Editor, Speech Programmes, Radio Scotland


Jane Fowler is Editor, Speech Programmes at BBC Radio Scotland.

She works with teams across Scotland:

  • Topical and Events – which includes the daily MacAulay And Co (Glasgow)
  • Features – for Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service (Edinburgh)
  • The Radio Café – including The Book Café, Movie Café and Festival Café (Edinburgh)
  • Religion and Ethics – working to both Radio Scotland and Radio 2, Radio 3 and Radio 4 (Edinburgh)
  • Aberdeen Seech – includes Out Of Doors, The Beechgrove Potting Shed, House With A Past and Digging Up Your Roots (Aberdeen)
  • Inverness Conversation – whose remit also includes Give Me A Voice, No Going Back and The Highland Café (Inverness)

Jane initially joined Arts and Features as a researcher, then moved to Current Affairs where she worked as senior producer.

She worked as a freelance journalist while her children were young and contributed to The Scotsman, Herald, Scotland On Sunday and Radio Times.

She also worked as New Words Editor for several editions of Cassell's Dictionary.

In 1991 Jane returned to the BBC to produce the Scottish edition of Woman's Hour before moving to The Usual Suspects as senior producer and then Editor of Features, Arts and Religion.

TV work includes Sex Warts And All for BBC Three, which involved a radio team making a six-part TV series that generated several further series.
