Anne Mensah joined BBC Scotland as Head of Drama in February 2006. She was promoted to Head of Independents in April 2009 and, as such, she oversees independent drama development across the entire UK as well as in-house and indie drama development and production in Scotland.
Previously, Anne was Executive Producer for BBC Drama, North with special responsibility for developing drama in the north of England.
Prior to joining the BBC in 2001 Anne worked in the independent sector developing and working on shows for ITV, BBC and non-terrestrial channels.
These projects included the Royal Television Society award-winning documentary Windrush. Additionally she created the teen reality series Cruel Summer for the Trouble Channel.
Anne's Executive Producer credits for BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Three include the Emmy-nominated Wallander, Waterloo Road, Reichenbach Falls, Bodies, Sweeney Todd and Life Is Not All Ha Ha Hee Hee.
Recent drama productions for BBC Scotland include Hope Springs, Personal Affairs, the return of Wallander for a second series, the return of Waterloo Road for a fifth series, and one-off dramas Fiona's Story, God On Trial and Purves & Pekkala.
Beyond network commissions, Anne's drama department is also responsible for Scotland-only drama projects including Scotland's hugely popular soap River City, as well as the Scottish Singles.
This year's Scottish Singles are Zig Zag Love, starring Robert Carlyle and directed by Giles Mackinnon, as well as One Night In Emergency which marked Scottish playwright Gregory Burke's first piece for TV and starred Kevin McKidd.
