Mark Thomas has worked in broadcasting for more than 20 years and joined BBC Studios and Post Production Ltd as CEO at the beginning of August 2008.
He previously led the project to transfer 1,600 BBC staff from London to a new broadcast centre in Salford and was responsible for building strong partnerships between the private and public sectors and leading the commercial negotiations concerning the move.
Prior to that Mark was Director of BBC Consultancy to the Public Broadcasting System in Bosnia, leading a team that helped public service broadcasting take root in the country. This included devising a new relationship with the broadcasting regulator, a new funding mechanism and stronger cooperation between the competing public service broadcasters.
Mark has held a variety of other senior roles in television, including Controller, BBC TV Operations, which brought together BBC Television's operations, and planning and scheduling functions.
He also devised and led the implementation of the genre-based commissioning system and streamlined commissioning cycle.
