Vassos Alexander is a sports reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live.
Born in London to Greek parents, Vassos studied Russian language and literature at university.
He joined broadcast sports news agency SportsMedia in 1999 as sports editor, supplying sports news to local stations, then moved to Eurosport as a commentator in 2002.
Working on a variety of sports for Eurosport, Vassos once commentated on slalom canoeing, the New York Marathon, the Luge World Cup, World Weightlifting, table tennis and fitness championships – all in the space of 10 days.
Vassos joined 5 Live in 2004.
He works across a large portfolio of sports, and highlights include the Athens Olympics 2004, Turin Winter Olympics 2006, golf's Ryder Cup competitions and Open Championships, and Wimbledon.
He was also a key part of the 5 Live team at the Beijing Olympics 2008.
Away from the microphone, Vassos has two children, speaks several languages and loves reading and waterskiing. He also plays golf, football and the double bass.
